A bidding war, an inspiration, a closing and a pack up!

My day ended today at the Rotary auction. Here is my painting on the block.  I wasn't feeling very confident, there weren't many people  and the first few things got no bids. My first painting also got no bids, then this one had two bidders and went for above the "reserve" it was thrilling!

Here were three paintings in the North Country Arts winter show in Glens Falls. There was a closing and at the end we can take away our work.

This is part of the "Battenkill Inspired" show right down the street from the show above. It's at the Folk Life Center in the Crandall Library and it's up until June 30.

My statement.

This post is going backwards, I started the day by taking down the Valley Artisans Market show, it's right down Main St. from me.

 I've gotten good at packing up shows, it's a necessity,

There is an admission charge for the event, and it's quite a large event with lots of "home stuff" so if you're around please say "HI"

Wallomsac River @ the Henry Bridge, Bennington, Vt.

I went over to Bennington to see a space to show in, it was fantastic, I'll announce when I have dates and a title.  I wandered, not far from there and found this scene.

 Still so much white, I thought a little red on the bridge would do something.

It seemed as though as soon as I started, the sun came out, and my scene was washed in light.

This is where I trudged in, they had less snow than home, which made it reasonable. The place looked like a park, with benches and picnic tables, but no signs, I thought it fair game.

The Henry Bridge.

Hudson River, not complely frozen!

9  F light overcast, little breeze.

I went north today and found this spot on a back street of Fort Edward.

I had wanted to visit the "Battenkill Inspired" show, at the Folk Life Center  in the Crandall  Library in Glens Falls, I've got work in the show but have yet to see it.  I stopped on the way, and painted but didn't have time to get to the show!

The sky was pretty grey and boring, except for the subtle change at  the horizon.

The snow was brighter than the sky.

the water is what brought me to this scene, it's mostly dark, but it also reflected some light off the sky.

I love seeing hills with snow then the trees on them, even being sick of snow and winter, this phenomenon, which occurs all over the place is thrilling.

There was a paper mill just to the left, and at first I thought I'd subject it, but it wasn't right.

The bridge was very delicate in this scene.

SAW Creek: blinding bright light, super dark.

13 (or so)  F  bright sun, a little breezy.

I went up to Salem Art Works today and this is what I got.

It seems like we have grey or blindingly bright light!

I put pure titanium white down, there was so much light it was overwhelming.

The creek itself, by contrast was dark-dark.

There wasn't much in the way of middle tones.

The yellow foot bridge is defining because of the color and it's man-made quality.

Maybe I needed s bit of color.

I was painting for about 1 1/4 hours, basically stuck in the snow, but the cold didn't bother me so much.

This is where I trudged off the path, snow shoes would work, or I'll just stick close to the path,

This would not have been a bad scene.

RR Ave, here in the village.

8  F  clouds with sun. no wind.

It was another cold day, but the sun came out and there was no/little wind and it was above 0  F.

Believe it or not it took me 1/2 hr. to find this exact spot. I wanted to have the water tower in the scene, but not dominate it too much.

Blues and some other whites.

There was a lot of smudgy-ness to this scene and I like smudgy-ness.

The snow in the middle ground is broken up by the lot-line and other trees, it's also both in sun and shade, so the color changed from warm to cool.

I'm always nervous when putting is "things" like the water tower they can go bad very easily, so sometimes I'll scratch in the idea of it, if I'm off, I can fix it easily.

I'm less weary about putting in he trees on top of things.

Here is where I ended up.

My scene, when I started the sun was behind the clouds, it came out, but I didn't get the foreground shadow/sun.

I'm on RR Ave. the white barns are the old Agway, now vacant, behind that is Hubbard Hall.  I like a village location, but not Main St., too much traffic, it's also good that it's so cold, keeping the paparazzi away.
