Willows Bistro, Warrensburg, NY

 85  F  humid.
I installed my show @ Willows Bistro, Warrensburg, NY today.  It's up all month, the address is:

3749 Main St. also known as Rt. 9, just north of exit 23 off the Adirondack Northway, interstate 87

They're open 7:30 until 3:30 everyday for the summer, Debbie Swan is the owner/chef, and makes great food and coffee, it's just a great place so if you're in the neighborhood stop in!

Here is the link to Willows web site:

I went heavy on the Adirondack paintings which were mostly from last summer, the ones from the weekend were wet!

23 painting total.....

I never know what to choose for any particular show.....

I wanted all seasons....

I've only a few views from mountain tops.....

Farms and rivers....

More bridges, and sizes......

A road.....

That's 23!

Rocky Mt high

83  F  nice!
This is where I ended up today, it's a view od 4th Lake from Rocky Mt, Eagle Bay NY, it was a 20 minute hike up here and third time I've painted in this spot.

#332 4th Lake from Rocky

11 x 14 available

It took a few minutes to find this particular composition, there are so many possibilities! sorry for not showing you the rejects and explaining why for me, I chose this scene and not another, to a large extent this is one of the most important part of my process, it's even mysterious to me how I'm attracted to one place at one time, and go about it.

The water want quick, but the greens didn't.

Lots of green! (only organized differently)

getting there.....

I spent about an hour in actual paint time, which really isn't enough, but like I said before, if you don't get the basics in the first few minutes......

Getting the tree in front of the valley and have it read correctly was a challenge I don't think I mastered yet, I am getting looser, and my brushstrokes show that.

Money shot of today's painting. From the photo the painting looks so much more saturated in color than the scene and mow I can't rember what was right!

Today's scene.

!/2 mile scramble up today, easy really, the last time I went, about one month ago I couldn't paint for the wind!

I'm posting these in a state of exhaustion, and am getting them out there,  I wish I could be more creative in the blog itself, but I just don't have the time, Tady Hope went to overnight camp for one week, I'm sure she's having fun, but it's quiet without her!

3 fer' Saturday, Adirondack paradise!

80  F some clouds, Beautiful Adirondack day!
This is where I ended up today just before the sun started to go down. It's the best place to end up cause I'm on the dock at 6th lake and dinner is waiting for me!

#331 6th Lake from Dock

11 x 14

Available

I went out to the beaver pond, in back of 6th Lake, if lakes had backs, it's a beautiful spot and I can find my center here.

I found a scene that's a close up.

I always enjoy seeing how abstract things are at this point.

The reflections were changing quickly!

Up until now it was pretty monochrome.....

Moving along....

Where I ended up, very sketchy...

#329 Beaver Pond

9 x 12

Money shot.

A bit of a bushwack here even though I paint here a lot, the bugs needed to be shown the bug spray, they were fine after that!

2nd for the day!

Another small close up!

Sometimes hard to organize...

#330 Dock @ 6th Lake

6 x 8

Last one, I couldn't resist the late light!

Lights.

OK.

Last one for the day time to walk back to the cabin!

Nice spot, huh?

Creek @ Duel Hollow Rd, and Trask show, 2 sold!

80  F  Clouds early, clearing later.
I got out reasonably early today and went to a favorite spot, It was cloudy when I got there but started to clear as I was getting down to paint.

#328 Creek @ Duel Hollow Rd.

9 x 12

Available

Blue sky above the right(west).

I'm using my "black" to draw the darkest of the dark, and taking advantage of the rough texture of my canvas to sketch in where it's not so dark.

 Green and sky....

The reflected light is just a bit darker than the light in the sky, I learned that from reading John  Carlson's book and looking on my own, (he's right!)

I add alizerine crimson to my mix of "black" which I make with ultramarine and burnt sienna, (more blue than burnt) and this gets it real dark and makes it contrast with the greens.

when it's at this stage I'm looking at giving some of those large areas of green more dimension, I'm going to change some of those greens, make them warmer/cooler, lighter/darker, so that there is a bit of vibration there....

This is where I ended up, I spent about 1 1/2 hour on it, and maybe I could have gone longer, but it was feeling like it needed to stay fresh.....

Here is the scene, the biggest change came in the reflected light off the surface of the creek, it can get squirrelly, those reflections. ( note, squirrelly is not a real word, but it's common vernacular in Washington County, or maybe it's a side dish?)

Sight-size shot, or how I paint it.

This is my idea of an office!

Me with Saratoga Apple I heard rumor that it got an "honorable mention" and a gold star, like kindergarden with beer!
