Finished February paintings with prices.

A friend suggested I post paintings along side of the prices (or was it prices along side of the paintings?) so here is a start, I've done 266 paintings since my "great re-boot" April 27, 2012, less than 2 years, and my alternatives to making money are window restoration (I sent out 2 bids recently but nothing back yet) or working at Stewarts (not a realistic option) so sell I must, and with 19 sold last year, I'm still stacking them up faster than.. well you get the point.

I believe my prices are more  than reasonable, the effort to make a painting, no matter the size is significant. I'm always outside, often in a location that was time consuming and hard won to find, I make my own panels because I like them, and I believe they are better quality than anything I could buy and use artist's quality oil paint and all traditional materials, and then there's the effort to get the work to you now (or an image of the work). Each painting is a unique item, and you are buying the only real part of that experience that can never be repeated again, and I think that has a value that I offer above and beyond the object it represents.

Here goes: (they are in chronological order for the month of February)

  3. I wish you good luck with your sales, Matt. Your have talent and you really deserve it. Unfortunately, all my friends are, well, people like us, people struggling to find some clients and to make both ends meet.
I think there is something wrong with Art: our society could not exist without it, but most people have no money to afford it... And those who have only buy Art if a name like "Picasso" is written on it, grrr.

  4. This is so true, Chani, and the way of our broken world, I too cannot afford to buy paintings, and I know that my artist friends are in the same boat! we all have our own work stacked up! Thanks, the camaraderie of artists is the best part of this electronic world, despite all the other negative things!

  5. Yes, we are all in the same boat... the only thing we can do is keeping blogging, trying to find a way to attract the attention of potential clients... Those can be everywhere, the neighbor whose dog is the friend of my dog but also someone who lives in Japan, Chile or Egypt, who knows?
And I agree: Internet gives us the possibility to make friends despite of the distance. That's such a good thing!

  6. Hi Chani, This was my first real attempt at selling through the blog, which I see as a window on the world, a window where people can see in at how the work is made and how I think about it. I have a sale pending from this! I also had more page views, on these posts than ever, so I know there is interest, even if it's other artists wanting to compare notes. Thank you so much for your support! Best Matt.

    1. Matt, have you also tried to sell through Fine Art America? There may be people out there who have no budget to buy originals but are willing to buy prints (myself, I only have sold a post card there until now but I see this as a beginning...) The most important thing there are to enter the right keywords.

    2. Chani, I know about those e-printers and it's a great idea, I'm putting it on my short list to research and try, thanks! if you have a minute, send a link so I can see what you've got there!

    3. From what I read, FAA is the better site for that kind of prints. You can upload 25 pictures there for free and if you want more, it only costs 30 $ per year (I decided to join in January, I thought I had nothing to lose).

If you join, even for free, you will have a profile who looks like this:
      http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/chani-demuijlder.html
As soon as you pay, this profile will remains but you will also have a homepage (it is automatic, 0 work for you) which looks like this, which is more professional (you can customize a bit):
      http://chani-demuijlder.artistwebsites.com/

Of course, there are a lot of wannabees artists there as well, but this should not matter, one recognizes at once who is a real professional and who is not. And of course, it is a jungle, I read you should be much more active in the community as I am... but... my days only have 24 hours.

Another good thing is the "blog" possibility. FAA calls "blog" every single post (look at mine), so it is good idea perhaps to post your blogger articles there as well (more audience) and to create a press release when you have a show.

To enter keywords, I would advise you to use http://www.mykeyworder.com/keywords/ and to fill more or less the whole space which is offered for them. I did not believe it but it is crucial so that you can be found!

Good luck. You can ask me privately if you have more questions in order not to "pollute" this blog which should focus on art and not on marketing strategies ;-)
