A casino, a house, a cemetery and a bar.

A real diverse group of paintings over these four days, place always front and center, and that's just picking them and getting set up.  On Wednesday, September 28, I went to Saratoga to drop off the paintings (the one that one the award) and stayed in Congress Park and got a scene with the old casino.

    I liked the sun on the building with the shade on the lawn, a current obsession.

         I found this on S. Union St, right here in Cambridge, NY.  I was buzzed about the award I got the night before!

This house was just recently sold, it's a beautiful Greek revival, fully intact with an attached outhouse!

      I drove around aimlessly, way longer than I should have and ended up here, a stone's throw from our old house, on Nickmush Rd. in East Pittstown, yes, it's remote, and yes we had a lot of our lives here, Alane and I met here and Emma was born here.

          The light changed dramatically while I was there, not unusual on these big cloud days.

      This is the East Pittstown Cemetery, with it's original iron fence, it's spooky on a chilly late autumn night!

      This is the Hoosic River along SR22 near SR7.  I've been by this spot many times, but usually on the road between home and New York or Boston, and I could see this sand bar from the road.

     I could park on the bar, no doubt it's underwater when the river rises.

My computer crashed and all I got was this lousy t-shirt!

      Two weeks ago my lap-top crashed.  It was down for over a week, when I got it back, it had a different operating system and I've been re-learning, re-setting and trying to file through a lot of photos, not being sure exactly how to manage them.  All this time I have been painting, most days and have done 11 painting over this time.  I can't blog them all at once so I'll pick up where I left off.

     This is my house, on a Thursday, the next day is Parking Day in Albany NY, where I'll paint in the city and enjoy free parking!  I'll post that soon too.

Civil war memorial, Hoosick Falls, NY, and a sales pitch?

     Yesterday was hot, humid and mostly cloudy,  as I drove out of the driveway, not knowing which way to go, I saw the last of the blue in the sky and followed, somehow and for some reason I ended up at the civil war monument on Classic and High streets in Hoosick Falls.  I've also been thinking a lot about trying to get my sales pitch going or whatever the hell that means.  There are a lot of people selling advice on getting these skills, and maybe they work.  Of course if they're artists and have found a way to sell their work, why are they selling sales pitches?

                 I've been liking lawns in sun and shadow and I found that, I also found the bright light on the green house, the statue was just an afterthought.

             I've been by this place thousands of times, but never stopped and the little triangle lawn, I presume is a park, but there is no sign to indicate that.

                                                              I'm not sure who this is!

                               
       There are parts of this that look too illustrative for me, some places where the drawing is just not right (I don't mean the statue, it's not my subject).  I'm pretty confident I got the values to do what I wanted.......

Friday late, South Union St, with a surprise!

62  F  mostly clear.

This is S. Union St. looking North at the back of the I.G.A, I've painted this scene at in the late day light a number of times, all wanting a re-match, Friday I had another opportunity, this is what happened:

     After I set up and started the balloon truck pulled up and started o set up, I really had no idea this was going to happen.

     Proof positive that the balloon was actually painted where and when, if it matters.

So there it is, ready or not for Balloon Festival, less than 2 weeks away!

3 days 5 paintings, look into the light!

Please excuse the sparse commentary.  I really do have more words in me but I'm overwhelmed by all the things laid out for me right now and I'm loving going out to paint sometimes twice on these beautiful sunny days!

     I got out early this morning so we could go for a hike in manchester, Vt.  This is my house, it often does not have the most interesting lighting, but for a few minutes in the day when it's like this.

The shadow of the trees moved quickly across the side of the house, a phenomenon I've been watching since I first painted his scene last August, when I actually get afternoon light on the front of the house.

Early evening today.......

  I found this scene on North Rd. in Greenwich, NY.

The shadow is the lift-gate of my van, and just slightly distracting.

                                Salem had an industrial past, hidden on the back streets.

      I follow my hunches, and if there is an idea I want to explore, I go ahead. Often times that leads me to some pretty poorly done work, other times it leads me to some cool stuff, today I don't even know where it lead me, at first I thought it was pretty bad, but I got it home ant I thought it was just a little bad, but had some thing worthy of future exploration.  The shadow was very dominant, but within the shadow was at least a little explanation, there was some indication of the windows, the paint, the pole, etc,  even if the contrast to the light was way bigger.
