2013 January 29, Cambridge, NY
I was born in Cambridge, MA 1961. Painting was my first real passion from my early teens and had great teachers both at Newton North HS and with a number of other artists, working in a realist/academic tradition. My work changed dramatically at Bennington College where I got a BA (1984) in Sculpture and Painting, figurative but mostly symbolic. I went on to get an MFA at SUNY Albany(1988). I contunued to make and exhibit sculpture and drawings until the early 1990's. By that time, I had been supporting myself as a carpenter, so that took over. In 1998 Alane Ball and I got married and Emma was born (1999) then Hope (2004) Dad was my new full time job (and still is!) I had been drawing landscapes (mostly in the summer in the Adirondacks), and by May 2012 started to paint again. All my work has been "plein air" with little or no re-working after the initial outdoor session. So this blog is about my painting, I've been able to do about 12 per month, so after my family, painting is my greatest passion.
