It was cloudy with a couple moments of sun, I went out and ended up here.

There was some light passing through from the sky, to the bit of lawn to the reflection off the water.

The pinkishness of the tone was annoying.

I like the play between the bridge and what's behind it, always a challenge, but fun.

Here is the scene without a breeze. The water looks remarkably different than when there is a little wind.

Today's "Money Shot"

I was set up on the rocks, very inconvenient, I had to sit on my backpack/seat.

I've done this scene before, today the contrast between the light on the trees, and the shadow was remarkable.

It went quick.

Here is where I ended up, 20 minutes later.

I went down to Albany, to see about putting some work up in the offices of a non-profit.  I thought it would rain all day, but the rain stopped and I went back to a scene I did in April.

Lots of white, is this winter again?

The sky and the water are not the same, but there not much different.

The last time I was here I had a similar day, overcast, my painting was weird, ethereal, but I didn't like it.

It was an easy day to paint without sun in my eyes.

I always adhere to the "most different" rule, which states to compare the scene to your canvas and paint the most different thing between the two. When I do trestle bridges, I amend that rule, and paint what's behind first, then I scratch in the bridge with my pallet knife.

Having a rough textured and dry surface helps at this stage.

I wasn't sure what I was looking for, maybe just a little water, I ended up in a blindingly bright spot, and could barely see my work.

It was just before noon, the sun was bright and it was bouncing off my paint, what was I thinking?

I started with green, and ended with it too.

There were a few dark spots....

The bits of sky reflected off the stream carry a lot in contrast in the green.

The scene is overwhelmingly bright, but the camera doesn't show just how much light is bouncing off the panel.

I generally like my scenes back or side lit, but the quality of today's light on this scene was the story, with the green.

At least I could hang out in the shade of my van, and Ollie, (not shown) was wading in the stream, and in the culvert under the road, where it was cool.

I went up the hill today and found this scene, I liked the trees and grass in the foreground, the few tiny rooftops in the mid-ground and of course the far hills in the background.

Sky.

Some green.  If you think of green, not as one color, but all colors mixed together, it's much easier.

A cloud moved just at the right time, so I painted it.

This is along the Battenkill. yesterday, It started to rain just as I was setting up and I got totally soaked, so I ended up not painting.

I've had a lot of "other" work, windows, a porch, and a bridge.  I was tired at the end of the day, but the light was beautiful so I pushed myself out the door.

Here is the scene, I appreciated the mowing.

I had to work very fast.

There was a cloud shading the middle hill.

Just about where I left off.

I had to get to this spot without wasting any time. I usually don't paint on County Highways, but I was able to get completely off the road, and I had a perfect view of the light on the western facing field.
