Finished November paintings.

Finally I'm posting the finished paintings for November.  Not the most productive month, but I was able to do 19 paintings, (14 are below) with one from another painting, a practice that I'm still deciding if I like. It also included a trip to Cape Cod, and even in total overcast, the ocean is wonderful to be next to even if just a short time. Mostly I worked on getting my studio/gallery ready for it's "grand opening".  It involved closing up the largest of the drafts, putting up "walls" so I could hang work, some with shelves for un-framed work, and to finalize the cleaning of clutter from the window restoration work that I gave up. They are for sale, send a message, if you're local come and visit!

    Here they are:

From flowers to oil transports and everything in between, 9 painting mega blog!

Over the last 11 days we've had some pretty cold weather and with some snow. I'm enjoying my new space, and burning wood to keep it warmer than the outside, but today I was outside, we got fresh snow this morning, it was 30 plus degrees and I felt warm.
                    #914 CR 74a Greenwich, NY.                    11-22-16                                11x12

This is the second floral still life ever, so it's a new genre for me, I liked working when I could, and not when the weather or light told me to go, and I didn't mind that!

                                              #913 flowers                       12-21-16              16x14

The clouds seemed intractable, and that was one thing I hated to do, was paint in the cloudy weather, but we had snow on the ground, and that helps, so I went up to the battenkill. along the road to Shushan. This was Tuesday.

                                  #912  battenkill @ Pooks.                 11-20-16                                   12x16

Monday I went to drop off a painting at the Albany Center Galleries, It's their member's show and they have to take something.  I used it as an opportunity to paint in Albany, and it was a chilly day, so I found a spot, just of of downtown, I thought the waterfront could be windy.

Here is my set up, you may recall I participated in Parking Day in September, sponcered by Albany Center Gallery, today I had my own parking day.

                                      #911   N. Pearl St.  Albany, NY.                      11-19-16                          9x12

This next one is a real dud. Well still learning!

            #910  Hoosic River @ Buskirk                               11-16-16                                    7x10

It was cold, and tis is what the back of the van looks like then it's cold.

This is the third time I've painted from a painting, and I think I'm getting the idea, but we'll see how it goes. The painting on the easel was done in September and is 11 x 12. The painting on the wall is 16x18, and I essentially adapted the sight size concept to paint from the original.

#909 Studio McClay Rd. Greenwich, NY.                      11-15-16                                16x18

This is from Wednesday a week ago.

       #909  Birch Hill Ln.                                          11-14-16                                                       11x12

I took another trip to Albany, this time it was topick up a bunch of paintings I had taken to the offices of the Community Foundation. I've wanted to paint in the Port of Albany for some time now.

          #907  Port of Albany.                                     11-13-16                                       12x16

                              #906 Pointsetta                         11-12-16              14x11

So that's in 9 paintings over the last 11 days, with a wide range of subjuct, thanks for comming with me!

Self Portrait.

I missed painting outside on the beautiful 2 days we had Friday and Saturday, traveling......  so I did a self portrait.  I started it yesterday and finished tonight.

                                 #905  Self Portrait                12-11-16                             16x14

   The selfie in a selfie!

                                           1st.

                                        2nd

                                          3rd.

Ever since I finished the last self portrait, I've wanted to re visit it, and I think I've improved on that one.  I'm happy because I have a place to paint it, and when it was 12 degrees ouside it was reasonably warm inside. So this is me and I think it's accurate to the extent that I'm able to depict myself, Thanks!

Light at the end of the day (x's 2)

This week was predominatly cloudy, but on Wednesday and Thursday, a little sun peaked out from the cloud cover and I was able to paint.

                        #904 RR Ave.                             12-9-16                                     9x12

Here is the scene at the start,  a lot of contrast.

On Wednesday I stopped here before the grocery store.

               #903  Burton Rd. Greenwich, NY.                             12-7-16                                       8x10

Here is the scene when I found it and you can see how vastly different it is from the painting and the scene not long after.  I still don't know why that happens; the variables are many, but that's painting under the big blue.  I'm loving my new studio space, and had a great opening, with old and new friends visiting.  I think I'll enjoy actually working in there, and just made some new panels, it was warm and comfortable so I'm feeing great about it.  Thanks again for reading my blog, as always your questions and comments are always welcome!

This is at the end of Bunker Hill Rd.  I've painted from the other side a few times.

This convenient platform is part of the dam structure.

Yesterday......

Grand Opening, this weekend! Thanksgiving, Cape Cod.

My Grand opening is this weekend, Saturday, December 3 and Sunday December 4, 10-5 both days. The Cambridge Valley Fine Arts Tour and Sale is on Saturday, but I'm solo on Sunday.   I also have an opening on Saturday night, at the Laffer Gallery in Schylerville, NY.

My Address is 138 W. Main St. Cambridge, NY. 12816.

I've done a lot of work to turn my carpentry shop into a painting studio/gallery, it's still a work in progress, but I'm happy with how it looks so far.  The wall on the right is my "wet painting" wall, for the fresh work, the walls on the left are for un-framed paintings and there are stacks on the work bench, which was stacked with tools and hardware just a week ago.  The far wall has framed paintings.

On Monday, my 55th birthday, I treated myself to scouting out a section of the Erie Canal in Watorford, NY.  There are three very high locks in a row, and I caught it just as some of the last barges were going through. still I missed the water, and painted the empty lock, when I met the lock man, he said he could have filled it if he knew!

#900  Erie Canal, Lock #3  Waterford, NY                11-28-16                      16x18

I haven't gotten much painting done while this has been going on, and with Thanksgiving and the birthdays. But I did get to Provincetown, MA. just after Thanksgiving, even with intractable clouds (rain was predicted) and I love being by the ocean!

#899    Provincetown, MA.                     11-27-16                           8x10

This was Sunday morning, it was cold, cloudy and windy, but I got to paint before we got in the car back to Cambridge.

#898  Provincetown MA. pier from beach,           11-26-16                      12x16

I'm no sure why I'd even try to do a beach scene, but here it is.

Saturday morning I made a bee line to the pier, the fishing boats are catnp for painters.

  #897  Provincetown, MA. pier.                  11-26-16                               14x16

This is near home on the day before Thanksgiving, I liked this photo and the stage of the painting, normaly I don't, but the unfinished places and the scratch marks.

    #896  Cambridge Rd. @ Tabor Rd.              11-23-16                          12x16

    #895  Battenkill @ Center Falls.                       11-21-16                                   14x16

Here I'm working from a small (8x10) painting I did in July, the studio painting is 16x20, and I was using sight-size.

                           #894  Studio Pearl St.                        11-21-16                     20x16

A cozy fire in the woodstove!

This is the Chinian family homestead in Newton, MA.  I've been going to se my folks a lot, and I wanted to paint the place.  My family moved into this house in 1965, and it's seen all our lives played out in it's walls.

    #893  Walden St. Newton, MA.                      11-18-16                             12x16

Well that wraps up the paintings of the last 1/2 of November, a few aren't too bad, and there was a lot of distractions and even more preparations, I don't think I'll ever get the whole publicity thing, but hope I was able to get the work out.
