The paper mill, Glens Falls, NY

Thursday, April 28th  cloudy

#763  Oakland Ave, Glens Falls, NY.    4-28-16    9x12

This was Thursday,  and it's been a bit hectic, so I couldn't blog until now.

I wanted a factory to paint and this paper mill in Glens Falls, fit the bill.

It had gotten pretty cloudy, and I've hated to paint on cloudy days, and I still do, but it seemed to make less of a difference here.

The "Money Shot"

I don't think anyone would ever buy a painting of a factory, but no one is buying any paintings anyway, so I may as well paint scenes that I'm interested in painting, besides I've been wrong before.

Main St. Greenwich and a truck in a field.

63  F  sunny.

It was a beautiful sunny day, just a bit cool and windy, but nice.  I found this scene in Greenwich, I liked the white of the building in the fiull sun, a recent obsession of mine.

The scene.

I like starting with the extreme white, and working down from there.

Progress.

Later the same day.......

I liked this truck parked out in the field.

The sight-size shot tells more about the scene than the money shot, nice.

2 days, 2 paintings and a few words on the Genocide.

50  F  sunny

Today is the 101st. Commemoration of the Armenian Genocide I went to church and was going to write something about how lucky I am to have the life that I have, how I wouldn't be here if my Grandparents hadn't survived the Genocide, and how the modern Turkish government denies it's brutal past despite the overwhelming facts. I'd write about all this from the safety of my home, with my family,  and I'm glad not to live in a country that can't face it's past, that doesn't have freedom of speech, or the protections we enjoy here. To my Turkish brothers and sisters, I'd say you only deny yourselves,  and you are still living the genocide, with all it's brutality and lies and horrors. It doesn't have to be that way and I hope someday you will do the right thing, for yourselves if not for the rest of us.

So I went out painting.

The golden hour was slightly compromised with some end of the day haze, but a beautiful scene nonetheless.

A lot of water goes under this bridge.......

Sorry about the glare.

A nice spot that I've driven by a lot.

Finished March Paintings

The more I paint the more confident I feel, and that leads to better painting that show confidence, in paint handling, in design, in choosing of subject.  Still there are times where I get lost, and stumble, and I produce bad paintings, ah life! This month I fully embraced the theme of "light on white" where sunlight brightly shines on a white object, usually structures.

Here are most of the 20 paintings from March:

A mighty river and a little trickle.

60   F   mostly sunny.

     #757  Hoosic River @  Rt. 22 bridge. Hoosick Falls, NY.   4-21-16   9x12

I had seen the parking area by the bridge a number of months ago while driving by, and happened upon it again today.

There was a nice little sand bar, just a short scramble down from the path, and Ollie enjoyed hanging by the river for a while.

Love that green water!

I like this, the Hoosic River Greenway!

Later today........

       #758  Content Farm Rd.   4-21-16    6x8

I've been noticing the reflections in puddles, in this case a little seasonal stream, especially late in the day when the rest of the light is going down.

I'll have to work on this (or a similar scene) again, maybe a little more water......

Gannon Road, Merchants Bank and a new driver!

60  F  sunny.

I went down Gannon Rd. today and found this:

         #756  Gannon Rd.   4-20-16   12x16

The scene at the start.

The tone I started with made painting this scene a bit surreal.

The Money Shot.

These are 6 of 12 paintings hanging (and for sale!) at the Merchants Bank on Northside Drive, (near the Wal Mart), in Bennington Vermont.  They will be up for three months, if you are near, take a look!

On Friday Emma passed her road test and is now a licensed driver in New York State!  This is her leaving our driveway in a car, by herself for the first time, I am "easing" into this new reality,  time marches on.
