Home @ year #17

76  F  some clouds.
I ended up where I started, on this 17th wedding anniversary, right at home.

I liked the bright light on the lawn and the large area of dark, punctuated by the light on the column and driveway.

Moving along....

It's so easy to paint at home, I can go inside and get more coffee.

My scene at the start, when the clouds moved over the scene changed a lot, I'd just wait until they passed.

Duel Hollow @ sunset

68  F  partly cloudy.
A late start again today, the days are getting shorter, just a little bit at a time.

The scene at the start was a bright sky, dark mid and far ground and a bright foreground. I liked the scene, but wasn't thrilled but needed to start given the time of day.

I'm waiting on my panels and had this taped down canvas, but the border is annoying and the surface is slick.

My spot.

More panels. I always like seeing more panels.

Legrys Road @ sunset.

80 large clouds and threatening rain.
I got out late, after all a late painting is better than none.

Often a cloudy day, late as they came in yesterday, will heed to a glorious sunset, as the sun goes below the clouds, short lived as it is.

I can have periods of high productivity, then reality sets in, and the neglected things crawl up my spine and take over my brain, so painting becomes more about guilt and less about adventure, but daily practice is important, and witnessing the subtle changes in the world crucial.

We don't have much flat land around here, this area North of Cambridge is appealing because I can get a big sky view, and it's close to my house.

Thanks for the visit! #604 & 605

79  F  sunny, humid.
I want to thank all those that visited me and my fellow Cambridge village artists over the weekend!
This is from last week, installation day, just before  Salem2Salem ended, I needed something to illustrate this post. So I went from an international exchange to a neighborhood open studio, both wonderful to be a part!

Yesterday and today was the Cambridge Valley Fine Art Tour, I had a lot of visitors over the weekend, and sold 3 paintings.  I had a lot of lovely conversations with a lot of people,  some fellow artists came as well as art collectors, and people that love the local landscape.   I was surprised by how many people I had previously connected with on-line and was meeting in
person for the first time. Or people I know in this small town but who hadn't seen my work. Overall, a successful weekend in every way.  It was also exhausting. I'm an introvert and while I love to talk about art and my hometown, it definitely takes it's toll. So I haven't painted in over a week, how did that happen? oh well, I've still got a lot of things to do, panels to make, a washing machine to buy,  porch boards to replace, bla bla bla, so I'll pick up where I left off and finish this blog post about the last two paintings before Salem2Salem ended, and try and get to a place where I have some type of a predictable schedule.

I'm drawn to the places where trees are cut out to let the power lines through, and this particular one called me to it, although I think I should have been across the street, a few feet can make a big difference.

I'm in a shady spot and have a dark panel, both are good.

South Main Street in Salem is also route 22, and has a lot of truck traffic, and although the speed limit is 30 mph, it's frightening to paint so close to this road.

There were a lot of cool shadows.

Here is where I ended up.

The "Money Shot"

On Saturday, last week I did this before the opening of the Salem2Salem exhibit.

This is S.A.W., barn 2.

The truck is Laurie O'Brian's project.

Here is where I stopped.

You're invited! Cambridge Valley Fine Art Tour, Saturday & Sunday, 10-5

Beautiful weather for this weekend!
I'm easy to find right on West Main Street in the village of Cambridge.

I wanted to put in a variety of things, and a lot of very recent work.

There was a lot of moving stuff around.

I put in stacks of unframed paintings, but a lot of others went into the backroom.

I sold one already!

You can actually walk in!

This is the before photo.

Well, if you can't make it this weekend, now that my space is reasonably  organized I'll be putting up a sign and open by appointment, or I can sell paintings and ship them anywhere.

Finished July Paintings; Cambridge Valley Fine Art Tour is this weekend!

Here are the finished paintings from July.  It was a productive month, ending in the first week of Salem2Salem artist exchange, following with another productive two weeks, before leading into this last week preparing for the Cambridge Valley Fine Arts Tour:.http://cambridgevalleyart.org/ So the paintings have been stacking up, and the repairs, projects and appliance breakdowns have kept me from actually painting. That's OK, because I had to clean out the back storage room for old paintings, and photograph, catalogue and varnish lot of paintings, then there was framing, panel making, and catching up with the neglect of the last month.

Here they are, please refer to the price list on another page of this blog to purchase, sent me an e-mail!
