Saturday @ the cabin
57 F Cloudy a little wind.
This is from Saturday, June 27th.
Hope and I were up, staying over at the cabin on 6th Lake on the way to Hope's week at overnight camp. It was nice, if not a little chilly on Saturday, and I was able to paint a little.
There was light in the bay and it was a nice golden color that contrasted with the light off the lake.
This is how I paint, weather it works or not.
It's often not as easy as it sounds to "paint what you see"
Here is where I ended up, the light was out of the bay, I wished it stayed longer.

A trip to Albany: an installation and a river view.
I went to Albany to install paintings in an office, on my way back I found this place along the Hudson River just South of Watervliet.

There are 12 paintings up until January, 2016. I just noticed they were crooked.
The Community Foundation is a philanthropic non-profit, I'm not sure exactly how it works but I'm sure a lot of people will see them.
12 paintings in all, and they're for sale so if you're in Albany NY, the office is open regular business hours, M-F 9:00-5:00
It is located here, through the Stuyvesant Plaza parking lot.
After lunch and the hardware store, I sniffed my way down to the river, under Route 787 to a parking lot and the Mohawk Hudson Hike Bike trail. This was just off a footpath from the paved trail.
The water and sky would change a bit.
The bridge is the Route 378 bridge.
After a while I really didn't see the fence.
Here is where I ended up, I got some nice reflections off the far side of the river, although I lost some nice ripples in the foreground. It always feels weird to change up something in one part of the painting while another remains from an earlier view, such is life!
I bet you can barely see the fence, right?
Sight-size shot.

Duel Hollow at the end of the day.
78 F some clouds some wind.

I've done this scene before, you can't get much more green than this.
These came out weird with the low light changing the color in the photo.
This is where I ended up.
My scene.
Sight-Size shot. The color seemed to elude me, I don't know why.
My spot.
This is the view down the road.

Father's day: an outing and a little paint.
75 F clouds & muggy
Our family went to the Clark Art Museum in Williamstown, Ma. There was a Van Gogh show in the new building and of course the permanent collection, always good to see. After we went to a beer garden and then ice cream on the way home, there even was time to paint on this the first day of summer and the longest day of the year.

The bridge and the river automatically create a dynamic composition, and I had some nice contrasting light and dark tones.
Some darks and middle tones.
On the water, dark on light, and light on dark.
I was loosing my light and didn't want to chase it.
OK so I lied a bit, and I paid for it. The bright light on the anchorage was awesome and I wanted that in, but I lost it very early in the painting, so I had to make it up. and ultimately the painting was not anywhere near this, that's what happens.....

These are just painted frames I bought unfinished over the internet, they're cheap, but I think they'll do, so will send some of them out soon.
